Sally MacLellan Councill
Without a doubt, Sally MacLellan (1924 -2017) was the smart sister. Couple that with her great empathy and superb organizational skills; and you have a sister that her other two sisters, and the rest of the family, admired and loved.
Sally graduated from Swarthmore College, a private liberal arts college outside of Philadelphia PA that has consistently ranked as one of the top five colleges in the country. Not only that, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa.
This is a relatively unknown picture in the MacLellan photo archives, perhaps because it was taken visiting my parents in Florida. For me this picture embodies the sense of daring and flair that she possessed.
It was at Swarthmore that Sally met her husband, E. Winslow (Bill) Councill. They were married in 1946. Their daughter Diana was born in 1948.
This picture was taken at Williamsburg Landing, the retirement community in Williamsburg she lived in after selling her house in Washington DC. On the back was written "the Grand Farewell", as seen in the way she is raising her right arm up and out. Classic Aunt Sally
