Lee MacLellan Military Service WW II

After his service in the Navy in WW I, Lee left active duty in 1919, but stayed in the reserves.

In 1942 he returned to active duty as a Lieutenant Commander at the US Naval Aviation group at the Navy pier in Chicago.

His family moved to Chicago (Evanston) IL from Minneapolis to join him.

To me my grandfather was an exemplary example of duty and service. Two of his son-laws served in the Navy during WWII, and two of his grandchildren (including the author) also served as officers in the Navy.

From 1944 until 1946 he was with the Hawaiian Sea Frontier in Pearl Harbor. His responsibility was to shepherd Navy ships to and from Pearl Harbor.

One of the ironic family stories was that Lee was stationed in Pearl Harbor when his daughter Priscilla married Bill Foster from South Carolina. His newly married son-in-law had to cut short his honeymoon to join Lee in Pearl Harbor Hawaii.

So Bill Foster's honeymoon was with his father-in-law and not his wife!
