The Lee MacLellan Family Story
Old Craignish Church was the holy grail of our Scottish visit
The highlight of our family's trip to Scotland in 2018 was discovering the old Craignish church, where some of our ancestors likely worshiped.

The four walls are all still standing. The picture to the right is the peaked rear wall. If you look through those rear holes you will see the interior of the church- the picture to the far right.
What was most gratifying in exploring the old church, and the highlight of our trip, was discovering three MacLellan gravestones behind the rear wall.

By pinpointing where our ancestors were buried and the Craignish parish around the graveyard we knew that we had reached the holy grail of years of research by my cousin Kate and her mother, and by my mother Janet and her sister Sally.
The three graves were erected to two John MacLellans. These Johns are believed to sons of Donald McLellan. Donald is one of the six children of Catherine McLellan and her husband John. John was in turn one of the six children of our oldest ancestor Duncan, born around 1725.
This side of the family remained in Scotland while the others emigrated. Directly below is, or was, believed to be the house of a John McLellan by our tour guide, shown in the blue shirt to the right.
